School Update 13th July
Dear Parent
We hope you have had a restful weekend in the sunshine.
A busy week ahead for Abbot’s Way!
We have received very recent communication from DfE, requesting our availability for inspection across the summer. This feels like a very positive move forward and obviously we have expressed our continued availability at any time.
Delivery and installation of our resources is booked for this week. This will equip each learning and therapy space and further transform our building into a school.
Prior to this, further internal upgrades will take place in order to prepare our premises for its contents.
Secure Wifi is being connected within the next fortnight so this will further facilitate the set up of our IT infrastructure and use of assistive technology around our premises.
Our Learning Centre sessions have now ceased for the summer break, following a great final week which included a Holi Spring Festival led by Kirsty, our Humanities Lead, and an Arts workshop based around Cave and Street styles. The students engaged really well and produced some brilliant pieces of work.
We enjoyed our first prizegiving on Friday. The incredible progress made by students in just a few weeks was celebrated - something many young people have not experienced before.
‘I am so used to being the parent whose child receives nothing - to sit in a prizegiving and see him receiving not 1 but 2 awards is amazing, thank you’
It is full steam ahead with admin and compliance work now.
Team meetings are being held to co-ordinate planning and preparation of education documents, and we have 2 visits from compliance inspectors scheduled this week.
Our ISA membership as Heads remains current and membership for Abbot’s Way is imminent. We already have established, positive relationships with personnel within the ISA, which are supportive and particularly helpful throughout our inspection process.
Midsummer Open Day is pencilled in the diary for Saturday 22nd August, when we hope to be able to welcome all families to Abbot’s Way for food and drinks.
Keeping in Touch sessions are being offered for students on August 7th and 21st, to enable them to have the opportunity to maintain and build their friendships. They will be able to come and engage in activities and valuable social time. These are open to all students, not limited to those who attended learning sessions.
Thank you to parents who have declared an interest in supporting AWS via Parents of Abbot’s Way (PAWS) and are willing to share their contact details. We will communicate further asap in order to move this forward.
Best wishes
Hellen and Gareth
