Our School

We are excited to welcome you to our fresh, unique and forward thinking school, situated in the historic Somerset village of Meare.

Abbot’s Way’s calm, holistic environment is set in a beautiful Georgian house, within acres of land and surrounded by nature reserves.

Abbot’s Way School's mission is to provide an exemplary holistic, specialist education for students with specific learning differences, so that all students achieve their own personal potential, both academically and pastorally.

We believe that every child is born a keen learner with an enquiring mind, who instinctively strives to achieve.  Abbot's Way ensures that its young people do exactly that.

Most students are naturally kinaesthetic, multi-sensory learners. Those with a profile reflecting aspects of dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia and dysgraphia will display this characteristic even more so.

Experiences which young people may have gone through will impact on self belief and self esteem because the world does not differentiate and because ‘kinaesthetic and multi-sensory’ is often not how learning is done.

Abbot’s Way uses a needs-led, multisensory approach to equip its exceptional students with an abundance of knowledge and furthermore, with skills crucial to support their greatest challenges. These can include:

  • comprehension / processing
  • concentration / organisation
  • memory / communication

Alongside these, our students have a range of exceptional strengths, 'brilliance', which we discover, focus on and encourage students to do so too.

Brilliance
/ˈbrɪlj(ə)ns/

noun
1. Exceptional talent or intelligence

These can include:

  • creativity / reasoning
  • pattern recognition
  • spatial knowledge
  • thinking outside of the box
