Science Venture Trips:
Last week saw Spirit hit Bristol Zoo with spirit! We had a great day exploring the various different areas and seeing incredible wildlife and their typical habitats. Our students displayed a deep interest in and knowledge of the living world.
Being lucky with the weather, we were able to enjoy a picnic lunch on the grass, a play in the adventure park and an ice cream, before picking up a memento in the shop before returning to school - hot and tired but happy!
Towards the end of last week, Flair took a trip up the road to Shapwick Heath Nature Reserve to explore the trails, hides and the ancient Sweet Track. We spotted baby frogs, some water birds, dragon flies and a multitude of fauna and insects.
We stopped en route back to school at Avalon Marshes Hub for a milkshake and ice cream.
Last week, our focus was on our three Abbot’s Way Skill sets…
Students engaged in curriculum activities which focused on the development of our ‘Core’, ‘Spin Off’ and ‘ Thinking’ skills, all crucial for supporting lifelong learning.
Activities highlighted the importance of analysis, evaluation, collaboration and problem solving, to name just a few.
We believe that young people need to understand the definition and impact of acquiring strengths which support and underpin knowledge and the application of it.
Awards will be given on Friday to reflect students’ brilliance in our skills’ areas.
Students continue to flourish through their specialist sessions with Sara, Karen and Lianne, who collaborate closely with our Learning team to assure our holistic approach.
Social skills sessions are also key in supporting students with language and communication.
As ever, if you do have any questions then please do not hesitate to get in touch
Best wishes and see you all soon.
