School Update 4th August
Dear Parent
We hope you are all well and enjoying your summer….
Abbot’s Way continues to make good progress, as we head towards potential opening and the Autumn Term…..
Keeping in Touch sessions:
All potential students are welcome to these, whether registered with Abbot’s Way or not. The intention is to provide an opportunity for young people to spend time with peers and familiarise themselves with Abbot’s Way, both indoors and out!
The summer break itself is a long time to be away from education, on top of the months children have already spent out of school due to Covid.
Our first is this Friday 7 August, from 10am -12pm. Drinks and snacks provided. Please rsvp to book by 8pm this Wednesday 05/08/20 or send any queries to office@abbotsway.co.uk
Midsummer Open Day:
We are holding our Midsummer Open Day on Saturday 22nd August, 10:00 to 12:30, this is a great opportunity for families to get together and spend time with each other and the team at Abbot’s Way (following social distancing) in preparation for the start of term in September. Please book your place by contacting office@abbotsway.co.uk
Professional’s Open Day:
On Friday the 28th August we will be holding a Professional’s Open Day. This is a chance for us to show first hand the wonderful provision we are offering at Abbot’s Way School to the professional people we are in daily contact with. This will be a useful opportunity for them to see how we will be helping our students reach their true and full potential and move forward in their lives enabling them to explore, discover and thrive.
Premises work
Works are ongoing;
- Fireproof safety glass has been installed into all doors in learning and therapy areas to comply with safeguarding and Ofsted regulations.
- “Low level” lighting has been installed into classrooms as recommended by our recent HMI visit.
- Tarmacing of our front driveway is booked for w/c 24th August, to create a one way system and additional parking.
- Fencing has been installed either side of our building to secure the site.
- External painting is complete and scaffolding will be coming down at the end of this week / beginning of next.
- Our classroom resources have arrived and our beautiful Georgian building now looks like a school.
Planning - Change of Use
We have received positive results from a professional sound/noise survey and traffic assessment which has been submitted to Mendip District Counsel to support our change of use.
The process, as ever, has the potential to take a further 6 weeks to complete however we are pushing for completion.
In Other News:
We are pleased to announce that staffing and Governance are continuing to grow, as is our network of professionals who are incredibly supportive of Abbot’s Way.
Tours with prospective parents continue and positive word is spreading.
We hope to hear from the DfE later this week regarding our application and we will, of course, give feedback to you as soon as possible.
We are really excited to have established links and have an affiliation with Sam Barclay, a successful graphics designer. Who, following the success of his previous book - ‘I Wonder What It’s Like To Be Dyslexic’ is releasing a further book, which we were lucky to have a sneak preview of.
We are really looking forward to working with him at Abbot’s Way.

Please do contact us should you have any questions, wish to pop in to say hello and have a look around, or if we can help in any way, please email office@abbotsway.co.uk
Thank you for your ongoing support.
Best wishes
Hellen and Gareth
