School Update 30th September
Dear Parents
We hope this finds you all well and enjoying the start of what is clearly Autumn….
As we continue to push forward in all directions to achieve DfE registration, our part time Learning Centre continues to be of success and provide a number of students with ongoing holistic education. Students continue to take part in interactive and multisensory sessions covering a broad range of curriculum and skills based areas. They are benefiting greatly from both the education and social aspect of routine and structured learning which meets their varying needs.
For parents of those students attending, please can we ask that, as from now, students bring in a set of wellies and a spare ‘kit’ for use outdoors where necessary and for sports.
We would also ask politely that mobile phones are left at home. If for any reason it is vital that they are brought, they will need to be handed in on arrival until pick up time.
Somerset Local Authority
We are aware from parent feedback that communication and collaboration with, and support from the Local Authority remains difficult. We are still seeking an acknowledgement from them in order to help initiate a visit so we are able to showcase our provision of which we are proud.
Staff Team
We have made some new appointments pending safer recruitment process which will be annouced shortly. These will complete our AWS team, one which we are extremely proud of and excited about. Watch this space!
Photographer
We have scheduled a second day of professional shots now that our premises is set up to run and much development has taken place since our last set of photos and drone shots.
We will enquire into the possibility of individual student shots for order and purchase by parents if there is enough interest - please let us know if this is something you would like.
Planning Decision
Our new plans for a new main entrance to the school were drawn and submitted to satisfy the points raised by Somerset Highways.
The deadline for a decision is October 7th however we do hope to hear prior to this date. Our local councillor is chasing a decision so that we are able to proceed. Informally the feedback is positive with the likely outcome granted to open for a certain number of students (we hope this to be at least 25 students) with the proviso to complete the new plans with works taking place next summer allowing us to open as soon as possible, with interest in Abbot’s Way continuing to grow.
DfE registration and pre inspection
We have resubmitted our application and have requested this be fast tracked given our circumstances and the reasons behind the previous report being processes beyond our control at the time of inspection.
Governance
Our team of professionals is almost complete as we look to secure one more person who will, as a group hold us to account as leaders and proprietors of Abbot’s Way. Our first Governance team meeting is being scheduled in the coming weeks as we build our five year plan.
