School Update 28th October
Dear Parent
We hope this update finds you well and enjoying some rest during a half term together…
As always, we seek to keep in touch with our progress and updates, which include:
Learning Centre:
Without exception, students have made incredible progress during their time so far, both academically and pastorally. Sessions remain interactive and challenging, with students engaging in multi sensory work and gaining steadily in self belief. Thank you to all of those parents who have already signed up until the end of this Autumn term. With demand so high and such limited spaces available, we currently only have one whole day and a few afternoon hours left available so if you are interested in these, then please do get in touch.
We remain committed to providing a quality part time specialist provision whilst we attain our full registration as a school.
Planning:
We look forward to completion of our “change of use” application to downgrade the current usage of our premises which has, for us, proven to be a more drawn out process to that of a full planning application. We have submitted the further plans required to satisfy the queries raised by Somerset Highways, which include a transport plan and the plan for our new landscaped driveway with developed access arrangements.
Two factors to note within this are;
Minibus pick up - to reduce traffic on site we will provide a minibus service which will take in pick up points in the morning for a number of students - details to be confirmed.
Our current application has been revised to allow us to take student numbers to an agreed level at any one time. This will allow us to open and immediately submit a separate application, already prepared, for the widening of our driveway which will allow us to expand to 40 students capacity.
Works will be scheduled as soon as possible.
Visits and Open Day:
Our recent open day welcomed more prospective parents and children to Abbot’s Way with feedback remaining very positive and encouraging which cements our passion to deliver a learning approach and ethos which only Abbot’s Way can deliver. Its safe, holistic environment allows students to ‘dare to learn’ whilst providing a challenging curriculum which stretches young people and supports them in achieving their own personal potential.
Recently, we have also welcomed to Abbots Way a number of education professionals, local residents, members of the Meare Parish Council, governors and tradesmen assisting with the development of our premises.
Building links and networking is important- the opportunity to describe our vision and show people around our building and grounds is always a pleasure.
Developments:
Our food tech space has been relocated to the first floor and the space it previously occupied is being developed this week into an admin / reception area. This will effect a more positive ‘flow’ and a clearer designated sign in / meeting / waiting area.
Our changing rooms and medical rooms are undergoing decoration.
Plans are afoot for an indoor space for sport.
Governance and associate additions are imminent and we hope to announce new members of our team shortly.
Outdoor gear is in process- samples of sports kit and active wear are on their way for students to model and try!
Department of Education and Ofsted:
We await word from DfE and Ofsted regarding pre inspection. In the meantime our priorities are readiness for this and building on our business model and vision.
Independent Schools Association:
ISA membership will come with registration as a school, which is the usual procedure. We remain in close contact with colleagues with whom we have relationships from previous roles.
Investors and Partnership:
We remain in close contact with educationalists and investors who remain committed to the vision and mission of Abbot’s Way. This is likely to involve partnerships and collaboration with other independent schools local to us and support for our AWS brand.
This is an exciting opportunity for us to pioneer our unique SpLD provision with the backing of professionals who can see its credibility and future.
As always, we are grateful for your support and feedback. If you have any questions ongoing please do not hesitate to get in touch
With many thanks and kindest regards
Hellen and Gareth
