School Update 16th January
First and foremost, we hope everyone is well and safe, and managing to enjoy some downtime over a rather grey, damp weekend.
This week marked the welcome return of our Abbot’s Way tribe after a long festive break.
Our schoolhouse has been buzzing with excitement, from The Hub to The Attics, with the sound of vibrant, active learning.
It has also brought a long awaited delivery of our Rapid Testing kits so that we are set to remain open from now, given the equipment to be able to perform weekly testing as required
With a growing student dynamic already in place from our learning centre, and with some students meeting each other for the very first time, it’s lovely to see our young people showing incredible engagement, teamwork and empathy within their first few days back at Abbots Way School
We are delighted to continue to welcome regular tasters for prospective students over the coming weeks.
For Somerset Local Authority parents, we remain fully aware that there is a wait for placements to be funded by the County, which you are no doubt pushing for as soon as possible
Following our due-diligence inspection, we are engaged in ongoing positive interaction, working towards our own contract with the Local Authority. We’re working extremely hard to finalise this within the next few days, so that students can be placed with us at Abbot’s Way, where they belong.
As funding appears imminent for many but yet to be agreed full time for our Somerset students, we will continue to invoice at Learning Centre costs as previously arranged and agreed.
From Monday, we welcome students to Abbot's Way ‘School’.
Subject allocation for learning time and staffing will take into account the continued part time nature of some students’ education, until such time as registered students are fully funded. We look forward to placements being agreed and confirmed!
Now we are in receipt of our Covid 19 testing kits and training has been completed, we will be adhering to the mass testing programme as instructed by the government. This means two tests for students within the first week only and weekly tests for our staff team ongoing.
We will work closely with parents on an individual basis should students be unable to produce a test result and ensure measures are managed as safely as possible within our small bubble. A polite reminder to parents that access to the building is by appointment only and we will pick up and deliver your children to you at the start and end of each day as arranged.
In other news we are looking forward to releasing details on our School Uniform and we hope, finally, to launch our fantastic new therapy team which is in the final stage of safer recruitment processes.
As always, please get in touch should you have any questions or concerns.
